Meet the women who make our crochet

Into the real Bali

A two hour drive from Canggu, off the tourist trail and into a rural village in Bali. This is where our crochet pieces are made. Rolling rice terraces, coffee and cacao plantations, cool mountain air. Villages that still run on farming, community and tradition.

We sat down with one of the women to hear her story. She started learning to crochet when she was 10 years old, from the women around her, the same way it has always been passed on.
  • The village

A rural village surrounded by rice terraces and clove trees, where the women work together in open-sided Balinese pavilions.

  • The craft

Every stitch made by hand. No machines, no shortcuts. Just skill that has survived generations.

  • At home

They work from home or together in a traditional Bale, an open-sided raised pavilion typical of Balinese villages.

  • The finished pieces

Every piece is made in small batches. We start small, listen to our customers, and restock what you love. Nothing is overproduced.

Why we make handmade crochet in Bali

When we started SunDaze in Bali, we knew we wanted to work with the community that had given so much to the brand. Our handmade crochet pieces are made by women in a rural village in Bali, using cotton and techniques that have been part of the community for generations.

Every piece in our Bali handmade crochet collection is made in small batches. No excess, no waste. The Dewi Crochet Top, the Cowrie Shell Hat and the Matcha Crochet Hat are each made entirely by hand. The only machine involved is an old school sewing machine used to attach the label. Slight variations between pieces are part of what makes them special.

More handmade crochet pieces are arriving this summer. We are just getting started with this side of SunDaze.
