Cotton is the most widely used raw material in the world for garment production. Its natural fibers have a number of positive attributes, making it a great choice for apparel. However, the traditional cultivation of cotton has raised concerns due to the dependency on harmful pesticides and its significant water consumption, greater than that of many other natural fibers.

Recognising the environmental challenges with conventional cotton, alternative production standards have gained momentum. Among these standards are GOTS (Global Organic Textile Standard), Fairtrade Cotton, and BCI Cotton. Each of these aims to address the environmental and ethical challenges of traditional cotton production.

We have made a conscious choice to only use recycled or organic cotton in our products.

Our organic cotton yarn is brought into Indonesia and woven and finished in Java. The cotton is grown and harvested in India, meeting the strict standards of the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) certification. With GOTS-certified cotton, we ensure top-notch fabric quality while also promoting ethical and sustainable practices in our supply chain.

Why organic cotton?

• Reduced Chemical Impact: Organic cotton is cultivated without the use of synthetic pesticides or genetically modified seeds, protecting both the soil and water from contamination
• Reduced Water Consumption: Through natural farming processes, organic cotton often uses less water compared to conventional cotton, contributing to water conservation. On average, conventional cotton uses 8,2 liters of water to make one t-shirt, while organic cotton uses 0,7 liters
• Supports Healthy Ecosystems: Organic cotton farming promotes biodiversity, ensuring a balance in the ecosystem and helping in soil fertility
• Ethical Production: Certified organic cotton often ensures fair wages and safer working conditions for farmers, emphasising not just environmental but also social responsibility

Limitations of organic cotton:

While we promote the use of organic cotton, it's important that we acknowledge its limitations as well:

• Water Intensive: Despite being a preferred option to conventional cotton, organic cotton still requires a significant amount of water for its cultivation
• Supply Limitations: The global supply of organic cotton is limited compared to conventional cotton, which can create challenges in meeting high demand
• Price: Organic cotton is more expensive than conventional cotton and prices are going up with the growing demand

We use the best OEKO-TEX® certified dyes for the prints as well. This means those vibrant colors stay bold for much longer. Though some fading can happen from sun exposure over time, our careful dye selection keeps the print looking beautiful, season after season.
