Redefining Swimwear with Eco-Friendly Practices
In recent years, the fashion industry has faced growing scrutiny for its environmental impact, particularly in relation to the production of swimwear. Traditional swimwear materials often contain harmful chemicals, contribute to plastic pollution, and require excessive water consumption during manufacturing. Recognizing these challenges, we've made it our mission to create swimwear that not only makes you look and feel good but also treads lightly on the planet.
Our sustainable swimwear collection is carefully crafted with a range of factors in mind. From sourcing materials to manufacturing processes and even packaging, every step of our production cycle is geared towards minimising our ecological footprint. We prioritise using eco-friendly materials that are derived from recycled sources or are biodegradable, reducing the need for new resource extraction.
Beyond materials, we also take great care to ensure fair labor practices and ethical manufacturing standards. Our swimwear is produced in facilities that prioritize the well-being of workers and provide fair wages. By partnering with suppliers who share our commitment to sustainability, we can create a positive ripple effect throughout the supply chain.
What makes our products sustainable?
The fabric
When it comes to our surf swimwear, we pride ourselves on using Carvico Vita fabric, which stands out for its sustainability and performance. Carvico Vita is a high-quality fabric that is manufactured by Carvico, an Italian textile company known for its commitment to sustainable practices. Carvico Vita fabric is produced in Italy, where Carvico's state-of-the-art facilities are located. The company is dedicated to minimising its environmental impact throughout the production process, from sourcing materials to manufacturing and finishing the fabric. Carvico Vita is a result of Carvico's expertise in creating sustainable textiles, and it exemplifies their commitment to both performance and eco-consciousness in the fashion industry.
At the heart of this fabric lies ECONYL@ yarn, a 100% regenerated nylon fiber that sets a new standard for eco-friendly textiles. ECONYL@ yarn is produced through a process that involves collecting and regenerating discarded nylon waste, such as fishing nets, carpet flooring, and industrial plastics. By giving these materials a second life, we not only prevent them from polluting our planet but also conserve precious resources that would otherwise be required for the production of virgin nylon.
As well as being a solution on waste, ECONYL® regenerated nylon is also better when it comes to climate change. It reduces the global warming impact of nylon by up to 90% compared with the material from oil. By choosing Carvico Vita fabric, we offer surf swimwear that is not only stylish and high-performing but also contributes to a circular economy and a healthier planet.
Carvico Vita fabric, with its incorporation of ECONYL® regenerated nylon, boasts excellent attributes for surf swimwear. It provides exceptional elasticity, durability, and resistance to chlorine, sun exposure, and abrasion. Its quick-drying properties ensure optimal comfort in and out of the water, allowing you to focus on catching the perfect wave. With Carvico Vita, you can confidently ride the waves while knowing that you are making a conscious choice for the environment.
High-quality materials that make our surf swimwear last
We take pride in using only the highest-quality materials in crafting our surf suits, ensuring their durability and longevity. Our attention to detail extends to every aspect of the design, including the hardware. We incorporate a high-quality clasp that is specifically chosen to withstand the rigours of surfing. It stays securely fastened even during wipeouts, providing you with peace of mind and allowing you to focus on your ride. Additionally, our wetsuit zipper is meticulously selected for its strength and reliability. It stays firmly in place, ensuring that your suit stays securely fitted and you can focus on surfing the waves.
Not only do we prioritise the physical integrity of our surf suits, but we also use the best OEKO-TEX® certified dyes for the prints. This choice ensures that the vibrant colors stay vivid for a long time. While some fading may occur over time due to sun exposure, our careful selection of dyes minimises this effect, allowing the print to retain its beauty season after season.
To ensure the longevity of your surf suit, we recommend following our care instructions: hand wash in cold water, avoid machine washing unless absolutely necessary, and lay flat to dry in the shade.
Keeping the supply chain as short as possible
At SunDaze Surf, we prioritise keeping our supply chain as short as possible, ensuring efficiency and reducing our environmental footprint. We believe in supporting local communities, which is why we source as much as we can in Indonesia. Our fabric is carefully printed in Java, maintaining a close relationship with trusted partners who share our commitment to quality and sustainability. Additionally, all our printing for packaging and hang tags is done locally in Bali, supporting local businesses and reducing transportation distances. To further streamline our operations, our warehouse is conveniently located just half an hour away from our factory. By minimising the distance and maximising collaboration within our supply chain, we can ensure a seamless production process while also fostering local economies and reducing our carbon footprint.
Transparency is key - where do our fabrics come from?
We believe that transparency is key, especially when it comes to our fabrics. We want you to know exactly where they come from and the story behind them. The fabric that we use for our swimwear is imported from Italy. This fabric is a blend of 78% ECONYL® regenerated nylon and 22% elastane. It is then printed in Java, ensuring that every step of the production process aligns with our eco-conscious values.
When it comes to our organic cotton, the cotton yarn is imported to Indonesia and woven and finished in Java. The cotton itself is grown and harvested in India, meeting the high standards of the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) certification. By using GOTS-certified cotton, we prioritise not only the quality of our fabrics but also the ethical and sustainable practices throughout the supply chain.
In addition to recycled nylon and organic cotton, we also utilise regenerated yarn for our tote bags. This yarn is made from fabric waste, separated by colour and woven locally in Java. By repurposing existing materials, we contribute to the reduction of waste and promote a circular economy.
We believe in being transparent about the origins of our fabrics, ensuring that they meet our stringent sustainability criteria. With this knowledge, you can trust that the materials we use in our products align with our commitment to environmental responsibility and ethical sourcing practices.
Plastic alternatives
We are dedicated to seeking out plastic alternatives that are recyclable, reducing our reliance on single-use plastics. In our commitment to sustainability, we have implemented several eco-friendly practices throughout our packaging and product presentation. For instance, we use kraft paper hygiene liners as a plastic-free alternative, ensuring the protection and cleanliness of our products while remaining environmentally conscious. The wash bag that our products are packaged in serves as a multipurpose packaging solution, providing a reusable option that can be repurposed by our customers. Additionally, we have opted for the use of paper hangtags, further minimising our environmental impact.
Limited quantities
We take a mindful approach to production by focusing on limited quantities and small batches. By deliberately producing in this manner, we aim to reduce waste and minimize our environmental impact. Our commitment to sustainability extends to every step of the production process. By carefully planning and forecasting demand, we avoid overproduction and excess inventory that could potentially go to waste. This allows us to maintain a more sustainable and efficient operation. Producing in limited quantities also enables us to ensure a high level of craftsmanship and attention to detail in each item we create. By embracing this approach, we not only reduce waste but also offer our customers unique and exclusive pieces that align with our values of conscious consumption and responsible manufacturing.
Carbon Neutral Checkout
We are proud to offer a Carbon Neutral Checkout option in partnership with Ecocart. We understand the importance of taking responsibility for our carbon emissions and strive to minimise our environmental impact. Through our collaboration with Ecocart, we are able to calculate the carbon footprint generated during the transportation of our products to our customers. At checkout, you have the choice to offset the carbon emissions associated with the delivery of your order by supporting carefully vetted carbon offset projects. These projects are dedicated to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and promoting sustainable initiatives around the world. By selecting the Carbon Neutral Checkout option, you can contribute to the restoration and preservation of our planet's ecosystems, ensuring that your purchase is not only stylish but also environmentally conscious. Together with Ecocart, we are committed to building a more sustainable future one carbon-neutral step at a time.
Limited returns
We have made a conscious decision to offer limited returns as part of our commitment to sustainability. By implementing this policy, we encourage our customers to truly consider their purchase before making it, reducing unnecessary shipping and the associated environmental impact. Shipping is known to be one of the largest contributors to pollution and carbon emissions in the fashion industry. To further reduce our environmental impact, we strongly encourage our customers to buy directly in Bali, where our stock is located. By doing so, we can significantly shorten our supply chain and minimise the distance traveled for our products, ultimately reducing carbon emissions associated with transportation. We believe that by eliminating returns and promoting conscious purchasing decisions, we can make a positive difference in reducing waste, conserving resources, and protecting the environment.
Our greener future
Our vision for a greener future is a driving force behind everything we do. We are highly motivated in our pursuit of improvement and constantly seek out more sustainable options for our products and operations. As a small business, we do face challenges, such as navigating high minimum order quantities (MOQs) and working with limited resources available to us in Indonesia. These challenges require us to make thoughtful choices about importing goods while keeping our commitment to sustainability at the forefront. Despite these hurdles, we wholeheartedly dedicate ourselves to doing the best we can to minimise our environmental impact. We believe that every small step counts, and through our collective efforts and support from customers like you, we can create a better world for future generations. Together, let's continue on this journey towards a greener, more sustainable future
