The Lombok Surf Community

Lombok's surf scene goes beyond the waves, with a vibrant nightlife in Kuta town. Some tips that we would recommend:

  • Craving a little boogy on Friday? Go to Surfer's Bar!
  • Bara's Ladies Night: On hump day we like to go to Bara. They offer complimentary cocktails for the ladies from 7-8pm
  • Tribe: This is where we like to go on flat days to go surf skating. Try the Acai bowl! It's the best one on the island. A little tip: go during the day if you can! It's usually less busy

Surfing Essentials in Lombok

When embarking on your Lombok surf adventure, you'll need to decide whether to hire a surfboard locally or bring your own. Renting can be a practical choice, but if you plan to stay in Lombok for an extended period, purchasing a surfboard from a local surf shop or exploring the options available on platforms such as Facebook Marketplace can be a viable choice.

Lombok is home to several reputable surf shops that cater to the needs of surfers of all levels, such as Flow Surf Store, Boardriders Surf Shop and Surf Lab Lombok.

In the wet season, October to March:

  • The wet season might bring cooler water temperatures. If a surf suit or boardies are too cold for you, a good-quality wetsuit will keep you warm. The thickness depends on the water temperature, but a 3/2mm is usually suitable for tropical climates
  • Lombok offers lots of reef breaks so in case the sea floor is rocky or there are sharp objects in the water, booties can protect your feet. They also provide extra warmth
  • Sustainable and reef-friendly sunscreens that contain zinc. We recommend to check out Salt & Stone

Beyond Surfing: Exploring Lombok

Need a break from surfing? Lombok offers hiking opportunities to the summit of Mount Rinjani, trekking through rice terraces in Sembalun, or visiting tranquil islands like the Gili Islands, where snorkeling and diving reveal thriving coral reefs and diverse marine life. Those who are interested in local culture, could visit the traditional Sasak villages. These communities offer a glimpse into the island's heritage, where time-honored customs, arts and crafts are still practiced.

For those craving an adventure, a visit to the Benang Kelambu and Benang Stokel Waterfalls is a must. Tucked away in the lush greenery of Lombok's landscape, these cascading waterfalls create a true spectacle as they gush down the rocky cliffs.

After a long day of exploring watch the sunset at Bukit Merese, a scenic hill, located in the southern part of the island. Bukit Merese provides a spectacular vantage point to witness the sun as it dips below the horizon.
